Travelling into London from the west - suggestions?

It's many years since I bothered visiting the flea pit which calls itself London but I seem to remember it was possible to drive up to where the Central Line starts, park somewhere nearby and take the Underground into the centre.
Let me guess: because everything is getting better, every day and in every way, this is now totally impossible..?
Would Uxbridge be a possibility?

Ive no idea to be honest, but I once parked at Harrow & Weldstone and came in that way. I bet the car parking prices will be extortionate. Im living in london and today, stone the crows I paid £1 for 7 minutes parking - yes that was zone one, biut still .I pay parking all over london ( inner and outer) and its always a COMPLETE rip off. I claim mine on expenses.
If you have to come to this hell hole ( I am starting to agree with you, this place stinks LOL) can you not get public transport in- itd be way cheaper? Megabus if you are coming from west country maybe?
Oh just a thought, I think TFL helpline ( 0207 222 1234) shold be able to tell you, they are actualy pretty good on the phone. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Best of luck.
London is a total nightmare. God knows why any sane person wants to live there. Trying to access the place at a reasonable price transport-wise is just one of the aspects of this, as you are doubtless finding.0 -
Uxbridge is the wrong end of Bath Road.Charlton_King wrote: »Would Uxbridge be a possibility?
Possibly your best bet would be ot park near the Jurys Hotel at Heathrow as it's right by Hatton Cross station on the Piccadilly Line. I'd expect the station at Terminal 5 to be a bit congested.0 -
When I used to do this a few years ago I used to drive to Ickenham [couple of stops inwards of Uxbridge] which is a couple of miles, if that, directly off the A40 which is a continuation of the M40. Area is quite pleasant villagy type feel and parking at the tube station was free at that time, doubt it is now though*.
If memory serves me right you're 40mins to an hour from anywhere really central.
*EDIT to add: Just checked TFL website, parking is £2 weekdays, £1 Saturdays and FOC Sundays & BHs.0
