Halogen Heaters

All electric heater convectors, halogen, resistance, fan heaters etc. have the same efficiency. You get out what you put in. i.e. a 1kW heater gives you 1kW of heat. In other words they are all equally expensive to run per kW. A smaller heater will be cheaper to run but you won't get as much heat.0

So if your unit cost including VAT is say 9p then having your heater on full for one hour will use 1200 watts or 1.2 units. Therefore, 1.2 x 9p = 10.8p per hour on full or if only using the 400w setting 0.4 x 9p = 3.6p per hour. Now do the calculations using your actual unit cost on your electricity bill.

I have a halogen heater with 3 setting of 400KW each, for a total of 1200. I am very happy with it and keeps the room quite warm. I have huge windows (4 metres long by 1.6 metre high!!!).
It also gives off a bright, orangy light and when the heater is on I switch off all other lights, and I really like that warm glow that I can even read by! I have certainly saved a little bit on lighting since using halogen.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
