Microsoft Money (with new laptop)

Options
Hi,

I am probably going to waffle but here goes:

I'm really hoping that someone will be able to help me. I am planning on buying a new laptop which will have Vista on it in the next couple of weeks (I am waiting for my 0% credit card to arrive so I can pay it off gradually without paying any interest).

BUT I seem to have found a problem. At the moment, well for the last 5 years I have been using 'Microsoft Money 2003', which I think is fab as I always know exactly what money we have in each of our accounts, credit cards.

When I went into the store to look at laptops the man said I would have to make sure that I could transfer my present 'Money' (2003) information onto my new laptop.

So I have been looking online and I don't seem to be able to purchase a more up to date version from anywhere other than Ebay (I know some people love Ebay but I'm a bit wary of using it).

So any ideas where I can get a newer version of 'Microsoft Money' or anyone know if I can use my '2003' version with Vista?

Sorry for waffling!

Yes you can use the 2003 version and yes you can back up the data off your current computer and restore it to the new one.

Remember that before the noddy in the computer shop started working there, he might have been employed in a corner shop. IT knowledge isn't a requirement for most large chains such as PC World, Dixons etc.

At least he was honest enough to admit to not knowing, by saying the OP would have to check.

He could have tried to sell the OP something which was not required in this instance.

Conor, I'm not defending PCW etc, but I agree a decent salesman perhaps should have been able to supply an answer.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Microsoft Money 2005 was the last version made for the UK; it's hard to find these days. You'd be better off sticking with Money 2003, which should install OK in Vista:

Thank you for your replies :j

I will wait until I get my laptop and try to load on my 2003 software before worrying about what may happen.

This is the laptop I am planning on buying - http://www.johnlewis.com/230479197/Product.aspx I suppose some people will say I could buy one cheaper but I like this one and my brother in law who is very good with computers thinks it is a good one with all the specification I need.

This site is fab as someone always is able to answer my queries; so thanks once again.:T

Just looked at the small print though and if I want a 2 year warranty with it I would need to pay an extra £139.99 so the final price would be £739.98 instead of John Lewis' price of £649.00(which includes a free 2 year guarantee).

Should you get problems importing you saved records take a look at my posts in this thread:

Not sure if the 2003 version does the same as the 2005 version.

    Hi,
Well I've got the laptop and it is lovely :j . My brother in law is coming over later to help with a few issues with an external hard drive I am trying to connect up wirelessly and is says windows can't format it!!!!! If he can't fix it I will ask someone on here as I'm sure you'll know the solution.

BUT I have just tried to install Money 2003 - from my original Microsoft Works Suite 2003 disk - when I inserted the disk I said that I only wanted to install the Money program as all the other options are now very out of date!

It seemed to be going well, the icon is on my desktop BUT when I click on it it says:

Cannot display the End User License Agreement which must be displayed and accepted before you can use the application. To display the agreement, reinsall the application.

So I reinstalled it (just Money) and it still says it!

    What am I doing wrong?

Anybody got any ideas what I can do?????

I had similar problems installing Money 2005 onto Vista. In the end I installed ALL the programs and got Money up and running, then unistalled the ones I didn't need.
