mencap problem

For the second time since I set up the payment mencap has failed to take the £1 donation so I've suddenly had interest added to my barclaycard debt that I was paying ff at 0% interest. I know it's tough and there's nothing I can do but does anyone know of a good cause that I can give money to that will guarantee to take it!

  • Giving £1 to charity so you can make a quick buck.

The costs of collecting that £1 make it well worth it for the charity. Not.

Maybe that's why they haven't taken it - I found it quite fun that you're complaining about a charity giving you a problem.

    The nerve of some people.

    Bounce,

If you're going to be so rude to people, why don't you just sod off back to Australia?

Who said I was from Australia?

Maybe it's just me that thinks people should give to charity because THEY WANT TO rather than to make a quick buck.

There are plenty of people out there who give because they want to, and give more than £1. I stand by what I said about the costs of collecting that £1.

This site is quick becoming a place where a different view is not allowed.

But I will still post because like others I have a right to free speech.

    Keep it coming, my dear.
  • The MSE is a bit like a club.
So one does not have the same right to free speech as you would have outside the club.
I am often more than a little sympathetic towards the views you forcefully express.
I think you tend to use not the iron fist in a velvet glove but an iron fist in an iron glove.
However you are outnumbered by those who take the opposite point of view and in the circumstances you are allowed your free speech.  You may be a tad intolerant yourself but that is no reason why MSE should follow your example.
    On with the motley.

the issue is why did they stop after 12 months of doing it regular as clockwork.

I'm not blaming mencap - I just want to know why they stopped taking money which would have gone on for some years while I paid off my card.

No nerve involved. There are probably thousands doing teh same £1 donation thanks to this site. Have they all suddenly not had the payment taken? Are mencap losing out on thousands a month?

  • £12 a year shouldn't be sniffed at by any charity IMHO, however it is collected.

Martin did set up something for a charity donation when this Barclaycard 0% card was introduced and I too would be grateful for further information on it as I was charged interest on mine a month ago by missing using the card.

Perhaps Gal could point us in the direction of this?

i'm sure they wouldn't urge us all t o give "just two pounds a month..." if the costs of collecting that were almost a pound...

I rang them and it's as we all thought. £1 was too low because of the admin costs. They upgraded my donation to £2 over the phone.

    Sorted
