I recently fell behind with some credit card payments.  I did contact the lenders and managed to get up to date on the payments, paying quite a bit more than the minimum.  However, I have been refused credit in the last four weeks and do not want to apply again as I understand this gets recorded each time on my credit record.  I did register with Experian (free thanks to your site!) and am now much more in control of my finances.

The problem is that I do need some cash for an urgent personal matter.  As I have already been turned down for low rate loans, I have been considering getting a loan with other agencies (some don't even check the credit rating apparently).  I do know that they charge a higher rate of interest.  There are many loan sharks etc out there and I don't know of any reputable agencies/lenders that deal with people that have been refused credit before.

Has anyone used any of these before? could they let me have the details?  I'd be very grateful for any information provided.

    Many thanks.  ???

Could sharing rented accommodation with someone with a poor credit score be a problem. I assume that checks are done at a personal level but the address is clearly an important part of the assessment.

Yes, especially if you are "associated" with them financially. Being a home owner is also a bonus (I guess you've got more for them to try and take away if you stop paying)

I have just been refused for a Halifax credit card and am a bit worried as i've never been refused for a card or anything before. Am I just panicking unnecessarily or is it worth contacting Experian now. I want to apply for another 0% card but am worried this will affect my scoring badly if I get refused again. I don't have any bad debts and currently have one credit card and have always paid on time, but i have had four addresses in the last 2 years and as I've just moved i'm not on the electoral role yet.
Advice would be welcomed whether I should try again or check my rating.

    Thanks

Sarah S - the same happened to me with Tesco. I was turned down when I applied just a month after I moved into my current house. I waited about 3 months then tried again (admittedly with another credit card company) and was accepted.

If you are going to wait a couple of months it may be worth you contacting your council and actually asking when you'll be on put on the electoral roll as sometimes I think they're a bit slow in catching up. That may prompt them to get you on it a bit quicker.

By all means check your credit files (Experian and Equifax - theres also Callcredit but they're a newer organisation so aren't likely to have much on you) as its good to do it on a regular basis anyway but it does sound as though its the house-moving that has caused the rejection.

Can Creditcall, only start to collect information from the day it was set up, or would it be allowed to 'fish' around for past information, ie from banks, or pay the other 2 CRAs for some info?

i have aplied for 2 credit cards, the mint and halifax 0%. not together but one after the other declined me, they have both declined me now. As a result i have checked my report with equifax. Orange mobile have me marked down as 3 payments 1 month late however these are not paid by direct debit, they send a bill and i pay. NTL cable have me down as 1 payment 1 month late, yet this is paid by d/d and no monies are outstanding to them, nor ever have been. and finally a mortgage with northern rock that was settled last year has "query registered on this account" yet there are no monies owing. I owe egg £5300 but am well within my limit and pay £150 per month above the minimum amount. my current acount is with halifax.
Please any help advice greatly accepted

I have just bought a house in Jan 2004, that used to be rented out. Currently i get about 2-3 per week for people who used to live at this property and they all look like "Debt Recovery Letters". The question I have is that will this affect my credit rating, even though I have had credit in the past and always paid the amounts back, and I currently have a couple of credit cards in my name. I don't want to walk into a shop and try and get something on 0% interest and be turned down just because of the address. I cannot find anywhere on the credit reference agengies website that cover "problems with an address". I and registered on the electrol roll recently and the council tax bill etc have all been changed to my name at this address.

    Please advise

I don't think you will have a problem because I belive it works on surname AND address.
Usually therefore this is a problem with family members.

Unless you are unlucky and one of the people had the same name as you.

You can enter something called a "notice of dissassociation" on your credit report which says that you are not financially associated with another person.
This is usually done in situations like divorce.

I don't think you'll have a problem but the notices can be added if you need to.
You would do this by contacting the credit reference agencies.
