Young Driver -again!

Right Ive looked at other threads on this and done the research.

Can anyone advise on the passplus thing - 2 brokers have told me, don't bother, no discounts - but Adrian Flux are advertising a massive 25% discount. However, having just had a quote from their specialist Young Person website - they are the dearest by far and won't even offer fully comp. So maybe that's why they can trim 25%? Quinn were the next dearest, is the young person specialist thing to young people like Sheila's Wheels is to women drivers?

DS has been on our policy for 9 months, wants his own car now. He's funding it with a loan, but am trying to get the best deal for him.

Does anyone have any good tips for me, I feel like the chap on the confused ad, I'm pulling my hair out over this! Tried our current insurer, not fantastic. Maybe he should get the bus for a year and get some no claims?:D:D

Any advice?

ps, not sure whether to post here or travel?

Depending where you live your Council may give help for taking the course:

    http://www.passplus.org.uk/sponsors.asp

Whatever the insurance discount you get, the money is well spent - just look at the stats for accidents involving new drivers.

All these companies say they offer PP discount:

    AA Insurance
    Adrian Flux Insurance Services
    RAC Direct Insurance
    Churchill Insurance
    CIS
    Direct Line
    Endsleigh
    Norwich Union
    Provident
    Royal and SunAlliance
    Tesco Motor Insurers
    Swinton Car insurance
    QUINN Direct Insurance Ltd
    Young Marmalade
    Zurich

When shopping around for dd's car insurance I found the best deal was from Prudential and with Quidco there's a good cashback too.
DD didn't do passplus but has had a full license for 12months.
    Good luck with it all!!

got insurance 3 party for my 18 year old daughter, and her 04 KA.She is still on a provisional licence and Tesco do it for £733,the good thing about this is that there is no HUGE increase when she passesd her test, premium is the same.I could not find anybody that could match this price.
  • We have just insured DD1 &DS on our pegeuot 206 sw, both are learners, DS aged 20, DD1 18, our quote through a broker was £826, fully comp, protected NCD, with only 340 XS when kids drivivng, our XS only £100. We thought this was a good deal, :D next cheapest quote was £1750!!!!!.
Bet someone will now tell me they have cheaper insurance!!!!!!!
2011, this will be my year .

Thanks for replies. Having spent the whole afternoon on the phone/web and getting sometimes conflicting responses from the same insurer I'm having a break till tomorrow! I thought I knew a bit but now I know I don't!

I'll try Tesco, never thought of them and maybe DS will have to rethink the whole thing! I do feel a bit misled by Adrian Flux - their website has a whole page written in teenspeak promising to cover mods, resplendent with nubile girlie draped over the bonnet, yet they balked at quoting me for fully comp as he is high risk! Hopefully, teens are aware of what 3rd party is.

I'm keen for DS to do the extra test for safety - it's a shame that insurers don't see the same value.

have you tried the gocompare sites, tescos compare, and also money.co.uk sites? youd see at a glance who will give you fully comp at decent prices, and what their deals are.
are you on about that extended course ppl can do when they pass their driving test as well? cos as i recall, it was only with certain companies that this so called cheap insurance was with? i also think that its just another way for each other to make money from one another, if you get my meaning.

Yes 2 brokers I spoke to admitted they don't recognise it at all, doesn't surprise me as many aren't interested in Advanced Driver either. tbh, I think that the extra skills learned should perhaps be just seen as a contribution to personal safety. I guess it's more in our own interest than the insurer's that we are safer drivers.
