Slow release safety hinge for toy chest

We have a big oak blanket box which is serving as a toy chest.
The lid is heavy and I'm afraid of little fingers being amputated  !
Been trying to find some sort of safety hinge for it but no luck so far.
Any ideas of what to use and where to get it from?
