Existing Sky Customer. Free plus box?

Options
Hi,

Ive been with sky for 3 years. Ive threatened to leave and they have given me a couple of sweetners but what I really want is a sky plus box for them to keep me.

They will give it me free but want £60 to install it. I believe new custom get installation free also, they told me this and I asked for it and they said they couldn't.

I rang off and said I would think about it after they made a detailed report of our conversation in which they said I would stay if I got free installation.

Are they likely to call me back? Is there another approach?

Thanks,

Toddy.

  • I would not have thought so.
They will have records of what sweetners they have given you in the past and if deemed you are unprofitable for them they will not phone back.

My work colleague did the same thing and got the Sky+ box for free with £30 installation. New customers don't get free installation, just half price at £30. I know this because I have just done it 2 weeks ago.

He had to tell them he was cancelling and get the customer support chap to put him on to the cancellation department before he got the better deal. The cust support guy was really trying to put him off cancelling by telling him that nobody in cancellations has the authority or the ability to make any other offers and that what he had offered was the best he would get. Turns out this was a lie and within 5 mins of talking to cancellations he had his free Sky+ box with just £30 installation charge.

Hope it works out as good for you.
  • An easy way to get round the £30 instalation charge - I was offered the exact same thing by threatening to cancel, ummmmed and arrrrred, then said I would discuss it with my wife and call back. I called back and said if they could get rid of the instalation charge I would definately stay. The rep told me the only way round that would be if I took another package, like movies for example. Asked how much this costs, and was told £6 per month, and I can cancel after a month if I wish. So basically the install is costing £6, but I was thinking of adding movies anyway. :D

To top it all off, they also gave me 12 months free line rental on my sky talk too, with unlimited calls to landlines anytime! Quids in!!!

Hold out, keep threatening to cancel and keep haggling. I had no intention of cancelling, just wanted a free sky+ box as my sky box is now 9 years old...lol. The worst that can happen is they say OK, and go ahead and accept your cancellation. You have to give 30 days notice, so you have a month in which to call them back, eat humble pie and cancel the cancellation. But according to other forums I have read, sky will almost always call you back in this month and see what they can do to make you stay. Good luck!

i was with sky and i had a problem with the sky box and it was out of warranty. i phoned sky and they said that they could sort it but it would cost me 60 quid. i basically told them where to go and told them to cancel. i was put throught o their cancellation team and they decided to fix the problem for free, which they did. i was happy with this for a couple of months and then decided that i wanted sky + but did not want to pay for the box or installation. they said that this was not going to happen. i told them i had look at bt vision and that they were offering free box and free installation etc and that if i was not to recieve a sky + box and free installation i would leave!! they called my bluff and they ran my sky to the end of the month and that was it. 2 weeks later i recieved a leaflet saying that i could have a free sky + box but pay 60 quid for installation. i phoned tem to see if they could waiver the installation but they said no so i too said no. another 2 weeks later another leaflet, they offered me what i had wanted in the first place (sky + and free installation) to which i agreed. perserveance is the key but you need to be prepared to stand your ground regardless of outcome.
