Hi need some help...:santa2:
Am planning an advent craft box for my little girl for the countdown to christmas:
The idea: I get a box divide it up into 24 sections, and in each section put a craft/making activity for the day, things that have something to do with christmas. Also things she could perhaps pass on as gifts from her also.
I have some ideas but I need 24 so wondered if anybody else had any different ideas or could tell me what things you normally make with the kids at christmas that have become a tradition.
so far I have:
1.Christmas tree snowmen decorations
2.glittery fir cone tree decorations
3.snowflakes(where you just fold paper, cut the holes and then open out to reveal snowflake)
4.christmas cup cakes
5.cotton wool snowman pictures
6.paper chains
7.white paint on black card painting(snow scenes)
any ideas gladly received, my daughter is 3 so I will be doing quite simple ideas but post any ideas please as it could help somebody who is looking for ideas for older children too...as minimum a spend as possible would also be helpful as we are mse'ers. I have a lot of supplies but if anybody sees any christmasy craft sets hit the shops cheap say at poundshop/home bargains or wilkos, please mention them here - could be useful.

My daughter came home from nursery with a photoframe that they had made out of coloured lollysticks. (Two triangles, on top of each other to form a star) she had decorated it with glitter and added a piece of ribbon for hanging up. It had a gorgeous photo of her on it, and each year takes pride of place on our christmas tree, along with a new one each year.
It is lovely to see how she has grown up each year.A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -
How about a flannel reindeer - http://www.kckpl.lib.ks.us/ys/CRAFTS/Ratrein.htm
Crayon cupcakes - http://www.fawnandforest.com/blog/2008/6/16/108-project-melted-crayon-cakes-
Can't take the credit for either of these, others have posted links to them on this board.
Found this site, lots of simple ideas... http://www.activityvillage.co.uk/christmas_crafts.htm
Love your idea of 24 days of craft!
Forgot to say I've made a few reindeer using brown flannels from Wilkos (25p each) and Tesco Value soap (15p for 3 bars). If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
Hi I did a quick Google Image search for Christmas Tree Craft and then one for Snowman Craft and there were tons of ideas coming up you could also search other ideas like angel craft, christmas stocking craft, nativity craft etc. One idea I like and we will do it with our grandson is to drawn round their hand on green felt then cut it out, you decide who cuts!! Then they can decorate it with felt circles stars sparkly yarn etc This is hung from the palm end not fingers and hey presto they have made their own christmas tree.
Also how about gingerbread men or hearts to decorate with her. I get my hearts from Ikea as they are a really good price and they have a hole for hanging them. I have seen a cool idea for my grandchildren and that is to decorate 24 gingerbread men then wrap them in a long length of cellophane, bit like a link of sausages. Tie ribbon at each link then hang it up. Each day 1 child gets to open the next section and they get the gingerbread man. Not for a child to make but fun.. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://bp1.blogger.com/_ouIAKLgIbj8/R1N6BVrXZYI/AAAAAAAAA9U/ABwQQdUro1k/s1600-R/christmas%2Bcrafts%2B002.JPG&imgrefurl=http://homemadebyjill.blogspot.com/2007/12/christmas-craft-saturday.html&h=1366&w=1026&sz=204&hl=en&start=16&usg=__5QRuydPeLtet0RzUGtePVJg0Mwo=&tbnid=XnA5Wuhq_gNwQM:&tbnh=150&tbnw=113&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dchristmas%2Bgingerbread%2Bcraft%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG scroll down to see the gingerbread adventNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -
I'd also just do some christmas colouring, either get a colouring book or print some pictures out for her. That way you're not commiting yourslef to craft every day at a busy time of year
Also make christmas cards, print wrapping paper for grandparents (brown paper nad potato print stars or christmas trees).
Decorate a (paper) plate for Santas mince pie?Slightly worn out mum to 3 (DS1 May 03, DS2 Feb 05, DD1 Feb 08). When i grow up i think i'll become a UN Peace keeper....0 -
What a lovely idea, that's so sweet! Should keep her busy too.
To get 24 different things you may have to stretch the xmas tree decs task over a few different days, but you could have variations on it, like shaping, baking and painting clay shapes to hang up, or making the star/fairy for top of the tree (kitchen roll tube, doileys, ping pong ball and glittery pipe cleaners make a great fairy or angel!)
You could also pop in little recipe cards to some of them, like the mincemeat for pies or pudding (always best to let it sit for a few weeks before using anyway).
She could also make some thank-you cards so that they are ready to send out to relatives after xmas.0 -
You could also make some Reindeer food (Ready for Xmas eve) Just glitter and oatmeal in a zipper bag and add this poem
On Christmas Eve, sprinkle all over your lawn
The Glitter will shine in the moonlight
And lead Santa to your house before dawn.
The smell of the oats will guide the reindeer directly to your rooftop.
The Christmas Hope in the magic reindeer dust guarantees Santa will stop
Then let her sprinkle it in the garden on xmas eve, my kids loved doing this last year.
and try this site for other ideas

Oh thanks guys loads of great ideas- keep them coming.
Reason for this - my mam would always go on and on that it was important to create family traditions - so wanted to do this as mam always used to do loads of christmas crafts with us through december. We passed a lot on as gifts for people and it gives me a lot of pleasure thinking about them now she's gone.0 -
I'll have to start making the box or it might be easier to make a wall hanging with large pouchs!!! Then I'll have to get some photos on here.0
