Dishwasher help - best way to use?

Sorry, I miss my dishwasher!!!! We are in a small rented place now and no space for the dishwasher, but as soon as we get the house, dishwasher is going to be there!!! (We still have ours in the garage). It used to be really easy. You would remove food from the plates before putting them in the sink anyway, so there is no extra hassle. And I would just switch it on in the evening before going to sleep or in the morning when leaving for work...
And now our kitchen (VERY small) is full of plates, pots and pans and I hate washing dishes.... (When growing at home it used to be my duty to wash all the dishes for 5 people family... And the pots, pans etc. brrr...)Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
I recently installed a dishwasher as part of my new kitchen. Its a godsend, and don't see how I can go back. I see it as comparable to moving from a mangle to a washing machine!0

Charity shops are often a good source of extra plain plates, second pyrex bowls, old but solid cutlery etc. Stainless steel pans and utensils come out gleaming, as do pyrex dishes (if baked on stuff, soak in the sink for half an hour and then wash as is). You very quickly learn the best way to load your own things, as well as what comes up better by machine or those few things that benefit from hand washing up. I throw that day's chopping board in too and take comfort from the fact that it is hotter in there than I possibly get my marigolded hands into.
I look upon my dishwasher as a dirty dishes cupboard as it keeps things tidy, free from nosey dogs noses, and away from any risk of fly/dirt contamination. I also never suffer from that (usually!) male syndrome of front of plates clean, mustard or whatever still on the back!0 -
Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I haven't had time to be concerned about the dishwasher anymore today as it looks like we have a leak in the pipes under the floor. I found a puddle under the sink with no obvious origin, all the sink/dishwasher/washing machine etc connections are sound and dry so we're assuming the worst and think the water may be coming from the pipe underneath and spraying upwards, soaking the floor from bottom up.
That means everything (including the kitchen sink!) will need to come out again so the (new!) floor can get lifted to get to the pipes.
I appreciate all your replies though. :beer:Herman - MP for all!0
