Getting an incentive

I will soon need to do a balance transfer and can hopefully use one of my empty cards if i get an "incentive" offer. I've never done this with an existing card, but will i need the security number on the back of the card to do the BT? I couldn't find some of my cards last night (they never leave the house) and was wondering if this would be required. I have the card number as i use online banking but will i need the security number on the back?

Just read the great article by Clariman on the do's and don'ts of requesting an offer for a current customer.

(Great article - thanks for that)
Just a little confused now - i thought you had 30 days in which to do a BT to the card and after this time a BT to that card would be treated as an ordinary BT and outwith the promotional offer. Is this right?
The reason i ask is that i have not used a card that was 0% for about 5 months but the original 0% period will be just about ending. The article mentioned that it may be best to wait until the 0% period had ended. Have i missed something somewhere?
Oh yes - and i found my cards. For some reason i had put them with some gift token cards (for safe keeping). From now on all my CC will be with me so i will know if i have definately lost them or not. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91

Well this is not always the case, it depends upon the Terms and Conditions off the promotion that you are offered.
To get a decent repeat, the advice is to clear the card down to zero and wait until any existing promotions have expired.
If you are then successful in getting a repeat deal then this is a fresh promotion and any restrictions on the original promotion would no longer apply.
Hope this helps.0 -

It it's an MBNA card, you can do the BT without having posession of the card. They'll just ask you a couple more security questions to validate that you're indeed the rightful owner of the account, before allowing the BT to go through.0
