National Trust Family Pass - waste of time?

Not sure if this is the right forum for this comment, sure it will get moved if not. Can't find the original post otherwise I'd have gone there. This is going to sound like sour grapes but it isn't - just a question ref why offer a seemingly good prize that doesn't have much in the way of value?
I'm a regular comper and deeply grateful to all MSE'rs & OP's who keep me in freebies!
A while ago I - like about a thousand other MSE'rs - won a National Trust family pass from Sky. Has anyone used their's yet??
I have saved mine up to use this weekend, it being a long one and the kids climbing the walls with boredom towards the end of school hols. So went to the NT website and found a couple of super places quite close to us with big houses (for me), nature walks (for OH) and kids activities (for DS & DD). BUT looking at the small print on the 'free' family pass, it seems that it can't be used at any of the places I wanted to go to, or in fact anywhere that's suitable for a family, ie. with lots of things to see and do and that would normally charge admission?
I'm trying hard not to feel frustrated or disappointed since it was a freebie after all, but it doesn't make me feel any better towards the NT, or Sky for that matter (right at the time we are about to ditch Virgin Media and are looking for alternatives).
Am I being too fussy? If you had one of these passes did you get any value from it?
