Can anyone advise, we bought a BT 2200 DECT cordless phone twin pack yesterday, charged up for 16 hours as per instructione before connecting to the phone line. From first use the buzzing noise (tried both handsets) was unbelievably loud and all but drowned out the caller. Is this normal or are the phones be faulty?

try using the phone from another location .Then you will know if the problem is the phone or the location .
The first cordless phone I bought didnt work here ,just a location thing.0 -
Seems like a faulty lead or base station fault. Def not normal.
Does it buzz when you use the intercom facility, if not then it is the line connection. Try another phone using the dect lead to see if it is the lead or socket causing the hum.

Thanks for your replies. Checked leads etc, still buzzzing so followed ginger-nuts suggestion and took it to my friend's house and still buzzing. Didn't realise my friend had the same model and hers works fine. So back to the shop and before I even opened my mouth they said "oh a return?". It seems they've had loads of returns of this model. dc - you were spot on, it's a faulty base station! So why did they sell it to me just yesterday!!!Marsh Samphire0

I had a similar loud buzzing on a new DECT phone recently. Turned out to be interference from my wireless mouse!
