House Insurance for home with a Sedum Roof

Hi, does anyone know a good insurer who won't penalise me for having a roof that isn't on their list of roof types? I have a normal felt roof, 100% waterproof but have a layer of sedum on top. The quotes I've had are simply ridiculous, over double that of a house with a conventional roof. There doesn't seem to be any incentive for people to change their way of life to better the environment, it almost seems like a stealth green tax!

any advice would be greatly appreciated!

You're probably quite lucky to get any quote at all that doesn't exclude ingress of water. Flat roofs are notorious for leaking as they get older which is why they have to be replaced every few years. Add to this a sedum roof which places a high demand on the waterproofing system because the sedum roof retains water and the possibility of root penetration of the membrane and it's not hard to see why insurers aren't keen.

It's a shame because they are quite attractive.

Thanks for the reply Greco, just an update on this, it's not a flat roof and I have a 10 year NHBC warranty on the whole house but yes it's difficult but looks good!
