Check with your mobile operator. Some of them allow you to send a number of texts from their website for free. I used to do this with Orange years ago. I'm now with O2 and believe they offer the same service but I haven't used it yet.
I remember with Orange the free text from the website was sent from a generic Orange number (621100 or something like that) and the text was post-fixed with something like "Sent from Orange.net by trcooke". You had the option of sending it from your own number but then it'd appear on your bill.
Please post your findings so we can all benefit from what you find, if anything.

If you have Skype installed then that has a text messaging facility.0

there is also
www.cbfsms.com
they let you send texts as many as you want to send, but sometimes you get an error and have to wait say 10 minutes before you can send again.0
