The next television development to watch out for is SED. Although it's not due until early next year, if it lives up to the hype (and what I've read so far indicates that it will) it will wipe the floor with both Plasma and LCD technology.

SED is shaping up to be pretty exciting stuff. However the production facilities are only now being established and we certainly won’t see anything in the early part of 2006, it will be at the tail end of the year at best and more likely 2007. The initial quantities of SED sets will be limited and may not even make it in to the UK. :( My understanding is that no screen under 50inch will be produced for some time

An interesting little development, HDTV in it’s ‘best’ incarnation i.e. 1080p (and we’re only likely to see 720p in the UK) has a resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels. NHK (Japanese Broadcast Corporation) is running trials of a new broadcast format called Super Hi-Vision which has a resolution of 7680 x 4320 pixels. It makes HDTV look old hat already!

If you want the complete low-down on HDTV then I suggest you look at this months copy of 'Which' magazine. (Local library ?) There is a very comprehensive article on page 20 which should answer all your queries.
The general point they make is the bigger the screen then the more you need HDTV because it has twice the number of 'lines' available to make up the picture.

I updated out 8 years old tv because I wanted a widscreen and for reasons of space small front room a lcd is most suitable and I may as well have hd because I dont want to 2 years down the line get another mealy to have the next thing. Prices have dropped to a more affordable rate. Of cousre prices will come down, of cousre there will always be something better around the corner.

If I had reaosnable size living room large crt 32" would have done me, even though I am savvy on pc's.

If I had a reasonable up to date tv I personnel would wait. I would only get one if I had loads of dosh, or I was a nerd and keep up with the Jones's or had a large rooom and wanted a big size tv. LCD's are the way to go in my opionion.

HD stuff at mo is hard to come by, however it will change sooner rather than later, perhaps next year would be best time to get one.
