Wickes back doors and windows

Hi,

I need a new back door and a couple of windows.

I've had the "big" companies in to quote, Anglian and Everest who are really pricey. Also some smaller local companies - still quite expensive and more than I really want to pay.

Was in Wickes the other day and their doors and windows seem very cheap by comparison.

Obviously I'd have to factor in the cost of getting a builder to put them in but I wondered if anyone had used Wickes doors/windows before and could say anything about their quality - good or bad....!

Many thx.

Regards,

  • you'll save by putting the cheap and nasty windows/ doors from the likes of Wickes - B & Q , but they are rubbish you will probably end up replacing them in 5 years ( instead of 20). I wouldn't tho!!!

Pete0773 They are not cheap and nasty as they all have to conform to certain regulations.
i have a wickes backdoor on my property and have for the last 10 years and its still as good as new.
i guess it comes down to not slamming shut or yanking the handles to open it that its lasted for so long.
I bought a door from B&Q easter weekend for my balcony and the glass has misted up inside and i have has no end of trouble getting the glazed unit replaced. B&Q wanted the door back ( yeah go figure)
B&Q put me onto the firm that make their doors and so far we have 3 sealed units of different sizes and none of them fit.
so i guess i have 1 good and 1 bad but will be resolved experience

Rubbish, I have Wickes Patio Door installed by my SIL who is a Window Installer, he has told me that the quality is better than the ones his company supplies and charges 3 times more for.

    10 year guarantee as well.

So, are you saying they are good or that they are bad?
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

Not sure about the quality of their windows but on the whole i always find wickes better than B&Q (and with better customer service).
Don't you have to get an installer who can self-certify the installation with FENSA or get local building control to approve (at a cost no doubt)?

We know someone whose a window fitter so if/when we replace our windows we might go the wickes route and pay them to fit them for us (never expect mates rates ...friends/family have to earn a living too!). But i'd be interested to hear if they are any good!

The frame, locking system etc is very good but its the glass sealed unit that on this occasion was no good.
like i said ^^^ i have had 1 good and 1 bad experience but i wouldnt say they are cheap and nasty unlike the poster ^^^^^^^
i would defo buy again if i needed to but i would go to wickes as they are closer to me

we also installed ourselves, quite easy to do all sealed and trimmed up
much better than the old one that was there
