Festival Tickets, unsure on safe payment

Hello, I have been offered tickets today and after some help from forum members quickly realised that the transaction would be a load of bull.

I have a seller for 2 leeds tickets in london and would be willing to purchase them for £10 or so above the face value, however it would not be cash in hand. They have offered to use paypal. My Question... if I paid through paypal what protection would i have regarding not receiving the tickets? (I am quite sure i'd have none), however if i bought the tickets through ebay tomorrow morning through pretty much an immediete buy it now auction and could send the money via paypal and have the tickets sent through courier, would i be protected for the cost of the tickets? even if just face value for the tickets? should they not arrive by courier the following morning.

I am going to get on researching this myself immedietly, however if anyone could enlighten me i would be very grateful.

You have more protection if you pay with paypal then any other payment system on ebay other than cash on collection. If you pay with paypal you have 45 days to raise a dispute regarding not receipting the item or item not described. you need to make sure you pay a confirmed paypal address. The seller sending by recorded or special delivery helps protect them from item not described disputes(although in some circumstances it doesnt as they have to send within 7 days and to a confirmed address and theres loads of other conditions) Hope the info helps.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Forgot to mention yes you would be covered for what you paid the seller if you paid with paypal as long as you paid a confirmed address. Also helps if you use a credit card when paying through paypal, for extra protection.

  • can i ask, is there any hard and fast rules/ways of ensuring who i am paying has a confirmed address through paypal or does an account alone provide this? (ill scrap the ebay idea if i can simply raise a dispute over the tickets through paypal should they not arrive)

    A word of warning.....

I bought tickets for the V festival via eBay and PayPal. I didn't receive any of the tickets I bought. My problem was that I paid for the tickets back in March when they went on sale but the tickets didn't get despatched till around July. I chased the seller for them who only told me three days before that his paypal account was blocked so he couldn't release my money into his bank and therefore couldn't send tickets (I also had other tickets that simply didn't turn up from a different seller) Unfortunately the timeframe also means that I am over the 45day dispute of which I didn't realise at the time) I am now trying frantically to at least try and get this money back that is apparently sitting in the sellers Paypal account but Paypal are useless and don't want to know.

In my opinion I wouldn't even risk buying any tickets via eBay or Paypal, even if you're covered it might be a fight to get money back and I don't trust PayPal one jot now.

We ended up buying tickets via Gumtree. You can arrange to meet face to face with a seller and hand over cash when you see the tickets. Yes it's not foolproof and we did have people not turn up etc but at least you don't part with your cash before you see the tickets.

I think you've been given some confusing advice.

It doesn't matter if the seller has a confirmed address - it's irrelevant to you.
You don't really know what level of protection you have if you're not dealing via ebay.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j
  • Turned up on the day and got them almost face value on the floor, i will most certainly never get desperate for tickets again or consider buying them like that. Thanks
