More bed advice please - Tim?

I have been reading your mattress advice, thanks very much for that. And to everyone else too who added to it.

My question is about underbed storeage; we currently have a bed frame with solid wood drawers on castors underneath it. Storeage is at a premium for us so when we get a new bed we don't know whether to go for one of these again, or a divan.

I had a couple of divan type beds before and the drawers underneath them always used to collapse and I had only a fraction of the stuff in them as I do now. The wooden drawers are fab.

Are divan drawers as poor standard these days? Are they only meant to take a couple of bits of bedding as opposed to being used for propert storeage. If they are poor, I should go for a wooden bed frame again?

Many thanks!

  • Interesting question, these days I would probably go for a wooden framed bed and just use plastic boxes underneath. I think the old divan (?) type beds look a bit dated now.

I saw a Relyon bed today which I absolutely loved, it was called Pure Indulgence but I can't find it online except for the Bensons for Beds site. Do they make some beds exclusively for Bensons?

To be honest I have never had a complaint about drawers collapsing. On the odd very rare occasion the runners might have been fitted wrong, but that is easily rectified. So I presume that it was from a company that made cheap and nasty beds........The make didn't start with an S, and end with a T did it?

Yes I think you are probably right. Beware of these exclusive beds, they are often made to lower specs, then the seller gives a price promise, but charges what they like.

Have you seen the ottoman beds? They have fantastic storage.

I had an otoman bed a few years ago too, I forgot about that.
Yes Tim I believe it was! I also had one beginning with S and ending in Y and that too fell apart.
My Mum ended up buying a bed yesterday in Benson's and the salesman wasn't pleased that I told her to avoid 3 certain ranges who are all part of the same groupl lol. She just got one for the spare room in her new house though so it wasn't as important a purchase as mine will be.

The reps don't like it when people know more than they do because they then realise that they can't give you loads of bull. This really stumps them, because many of them have either forgotten, or never knew what the truth was.
