Before we bought the honda, and after we took the moutfield back, we were toying with buying the soverign, as it had a B&S engine, but I think the cut wasnt wide enough for one reason, the other it wasnt self propelled.

But the thing is, you get a warranty with it anyway, and for £125, plus 10% discount, go for it.:D

Plus its a gorgeous shade of red.lol
  • We have a Champion self propelled petrol mower-bought from Focus at about £80 with a B&S engine. It is brilliant. Years ago we got a Honds, cost us hundreds of pounds even then and while it lasted about twelve years, was very heavy and not worth it. We would rather buy a cheap one and get up to date technology(hence the self propelled one now) every few years.

I have a Champion I bought from Focus at the start of last year and it's going very well.
I use mine for work, preferring a cheap throwaway mower, to a more expensive and not necessarily better quality brand.
It starts first time every day and apart from the occasional backfire, is flawless, cutting 15 to 20 lawns per week.
I change the oil, clean the air filter and plug once a month and that's it, apart from filling it with petrol and sharpening the blade.

I have looked at a Honda powered mower, but they tend to be rather heavy and I often have to carry the mower up and down steps. Don't buy a Mountfield, the engines are ok, but the wheels fall off!

  • avoid mountfields at all costs, they are now owned by a japanese company and are known for not lasting very long.

if you want to invest wisely i would avoid b&q etc all together and get down to a specialists. you'll end up spending more money but at least you stand a good chance of saving money in the long run.
