Calipers as being mentioned would generally show one pad more worn than the others.

thought it was front? or does the handbrake work on the front wheels?
  • Thanks for all the replies

We had been taking it to Renault because we moved to a new area and all recommendations for garages turned out to be cowboys. We've always had really good service at Renault and haven't been charged for anything we haven't needed (I don't think!).

From reading the posts the advisory could refer to anything to do with the brakes so will have to get it looked at.

Thanks again to all who replied.

You cannot say that it is the calipers.

20 years experience as a qualified mechanic says I can. It is usually the sliders in the caliper that seize due to poor maintenance.

There are only three things that cause brake imbalance. One is air in the system , another is a leaking caliper and the final one is a seized/sticking caliper.

As it passed the visual test for leaks and the brake pedal pumping test, then its the seized/sticking caliper.

Could just as easy be the discs and pads.if it passed the MOT then its below 25% inballance and tbh probably nothing to worry about.ive had cars that are inballanced and nothing obvious was wrong.fit a new set of pads and sorted it.you cant say for definite its a siezed calliper.
    Sorry :) :money:

And what happens when you fit those new pads? Oh yeah, that's right, you push the piston back and pull the sliders out past the bit where they were sticking...

    You're a fitter aren't you?

And you're a psychic:rolleyes: No one knows until the wheel comes off and checked, best we can do is give educated guesses;)

If you'd have read my post properly, you'd have seen that i said "when nothing obvious was wrong"..meaning that i'd checked all the obvious that you keep bleeting on about  ..you are the one with the "fitter" mentality mate.you also only give 3 causes of brake inballance  ..what a load of bollox! what about if a brake hose has collapsed? if you are a qualified mechanic you would know that nothing in this trade can be taken for granted!
    Sorry :) :money:
