Problems with Renault Megane

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this query on, but hope that mods will move if necessary.

We bought an 05 reg Renault Megane cabriolet with 6,500 miles on the clock, three months ago from Renault Liverpool and paid £10,000 which included a 12 month warranty.

The car looks very nice but on driving it there is a marked "juddering" type sensation. Took it back to Renault who looked at it and said that there was nothing they could find wrong. We weren't happy and took it back again to be told that all Renault Cabriolets have the same juddering sensation. I have since spoken to several Megane cabriolet owners who all say that they have not had this problem. I have even driven their cars and the juddering sensation in my car is definitely not present in theirs. We have checked the tyre pressures, wheel balancing etc and that is fine. Renault are saying that there is nothing else they can do but the fact is that the car DOES judder and I am nervous of driving on the motorway at speed in it. The juddering is there all the time but is much more marked when the hood is down.

Can anyone offer any advice on either what it could be or what I should do now with Renault, who, I have to say, seem totally disinterested and haven't returned calls and been dismissive when I have spoken to them.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Does it judder when coasting in neutral or only when engine is powering the car?

the only time my Renault Cab judders is when a coil is on the way out. Last one went during its MOT at a Renault garage and they sent me on my way not knowing it had gone - even though it passed the emmissions test - mechanic said "I just thought it sounded a bit lumpy"!

Well worth getting them to check the coils.

If you google Renault / coils, you'll probably find plenty of stuff, as it appears a particular problem on them.

My dad has a Megane and it's just over 3 years old. It's had all the coils replaced twice!!

Basically 2 of them go on a regular basis. My mother in law has a Clio of the same age and that's had 4 new coils since she got in in Jan 08.

When the coil goes, it runs rough when you rev it.

Thanks for the replies - I googled it and found loads of stuff about problems with coils. That sounds like it might be the problem so will bat it back to Renault.

my money would be on a sensor - all cars suffer from these

but as its under warranty, take it back

Did you ever get this sorted out? I have a megane CC and since I've had it (6000miles) it judders when I pull away.
