Have got a laptop that was previously connected wirelessly via aol, recently changed to sky can only connect with the ethernet cable. My computer detects the wireless network and when i click on connect it doesnt ask for the network like it should but the following error message appears:
'Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try again'
But my network is always in range.
I phoned sky and they said that it is to do with my network adapter???
i believe ive got a MiniPCI Wireless LAN card, have tried updating it but nothing changes.
Not to sure what else i should be doing!!
Any advice appreciated.

Are you running XP or Vista?
If Vista, right-click the icon (the one with the two screens) at the bottom right of your screen and choose "Connect to a network".
Then, at the bottom of the newly opened window, click "Set up a connection or network", then choose "Manually connect to a wireless network" and then fill in the details, INCLUDING your network passphrase key (which hopefully you know, sometimes it's written on the router). The network name is the SSID, the "name" of the network which comes up when you've previously tried to connect to it.
See if that works.0 -
Hi im on Xp which icon do i click?0

Ok have followed all that and after ive put in the network key which is printed on the bottom of my router and is an 8 letter code an error message comes up:
'the network password needs to be 40bits or 140bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascil characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters'
this is whats on bottom of router
SSID: SKY*****
NETWORK KEY:********

Have you got the correct encryption type?
Try entering the code with the encryption type as "WEP", and then if it doesn't work, try with "WPA-PSK".0 -
ok under data encryption the only 2 options are disable or WEP?0

Click on Setup then check what it says under "Security Options" for the encryption type and "Network Key" for your password.0
