My electricity

Hi,

I had a question regarding the bill I received today.

Firstly, I live in a 2 bedroom flat which is competely electric. The heating has not been on for 3 months and I pay by direct debit. For hot water I have a 3 switch immersion heater (Off-peak, Peak and Boost), the off-peak stays on all the time and no other switches are used, ever.

I very recently (the passed week) switched my tariff from their Standard Electricity to the Go Greem Tariff.

I recieved my electricity bill from E.On today and it is detailed below:

Day previous
40027 read by us on 18 February 2008
Day current
42984 read by us on 13 August 2008
=2957 Day kWh (kilowatt-hours) used

Night previous
3730 read by us on 18 February 2008
Night current
3730 read by us on 13 August 2008
=0 Night kWh (kilowatt-hours) used

Charges
Day primary units used 434 kWh at 17.9p each = 77.69
Day secondary units used 2523 kWh at 11.03p each = 278.29
Night units used 0 kWh at 4.41p each = 0.00

Total electricity charges = 355.98

Q - If my immersion heater only has the off-peak switch on, why am I not using night units and only the very expesnive day units?

I checked some previous bills and my night units have moved since I moved in to the property over a year ago.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Something appears seriously wrong with your meter.

If you are living at the property, it would be extremely strange not to use any electricity during the off peak 7 hour period every night over a period of 6 months. If, like most homes, you have a fridge and/or freezer this would use some power during that time.

Time to investigate why the meter is not switching rather than looking at the immersion heater, I suspect. Start by contacting your electricity supplier. They should be able to re-bill you based on estimated usage for the period the meter has been faulty.

  • Yep, faulty meter and/or faulty timeswitch. Contact Eon and they can sort it out.
