Buying a Dorran House - advice needed

Hi, I am looking at buying a Dorran house to use as a holiday house for myself and my family. It is a pre-fabricated concrete house, I have heard that banks don't like giving mortgages on these (luckily I won't be needing one after down-sizing my own home a couple of years ago), which does make me wonder what the problem is with them. Would appreciate any advice or shared experiences, please note that I am not looking at this as an ivestment. The house is going cheaply, and I would expect it will do again when the time comes for me to sell.

    Hi there,

We bought a Dorran last year. We got a mortgage on it with no problems but it has had the necessary remedial work done on it.
From what I can gather the problem with Dorrans is that although the concrete shell is still OK the metal rods through the concrete can rust and may cause issues. I think remedial work is like putting another 'skin' around the house to keep it structurally sound. I might be wrong on this & if anyone knows different please let me know.

Thanks ClootiesMum, I don't know anyone who has ever had a Dorran, but I have never seen that many of them either.
