Camping Legal Advice

hi
we were due to go camping on Saturday just gone but were unable to go on that day, the in laws have made their way down there and have been staying in a caravan on the same site, they have been phoning us up with daily weather reports which range from dull and overcast to torrential rain and high winds, we have spoke to the site owners and advised them that it will probably be this saturday instead, they have said that we will have to pay the entire 2 weeks fees even if we stay for only 1 week, basically 3/4 of the site have given up and gone home due to soggy ground and weather, we are considering not going at all and are going to offer to pay for the days that we should have been there we think this is fair, on the booking form it says that the balance is due on arrival but surely if you don't go you haven't got to pay and they also stae that they don't think adverse weather is a good enough reason either.....advice please would help us greatly

If you've booked for two weeks you should pay for the two weeks regardless if you turn up or not.
You booked the caravan, stopping it being offered to anyone else once you'd secured it so you should pay.

You cannot use bad weather as an excuse!

I fear that you are going to have to pay. Inclement weather as a reason for cancellation and negation of charges is unlikely to be a part of the booking terms and conditions. The site-owner will probably enforce the payment of the balance if you don't pay..

That is a common term and condition and it's payable, I am afraid. If the site is so bad it has been closed then it may be a different story but, if not, then the conditions for payment they have stated are fair and reasonable (even if you don't think they are).
