    Hi

he really does need to talk through his options with one of the debt charities http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • My opinion is I would dispute their claim?.
Do you have all the details they hold on you? you are entitled to this if they are taking court action by sending a CPR request.
You need expert advice on this, have you been to legal beagles website? they may be able to help
Have you sent the aknowledgement to apply for extra time?
What does it say in the particulars of the claim?

  • No. He didn't request the extra time as he acknowledges that he owes the money - his concern is that the debt has jumped from £6500 to £28k, despite the court appearing to accept the £75pm he has offered.
It would appear that they are charging 12% per annum interest on to the balance......
I think I have read somewhere that if the original balance is over 5k they are entitled to do this on a ccj ??

  • He needs to be very very careful..there are a number of implications and I suggest he contacts his Local citizens advice asao. there are time limits in relation to court forms..so he needs independent legal advice asap hope that helps x

hi there. What firm is asking for this money? Is it a debt reglated by the Consumer Credit Act?

Have a look at this it goives some good advice re gambling debts:

    http://www.lawanswers.co.uk/questions/gambling-debt-to-bookmaker-is-leading-to-threat-of-bailiffs-from-debt-collectors-who-want-more-than-i-can-afford

How old are these debts as prior to 2004 gambling debts were unenforceabke and considered debts of honour.

With regard to the interest your friend should agree to some of the deby but challenge the interest aspect. that way he will get the case transferred to his local court and get his say
