wallpaper on ceiling

need to get wallpaper (lining paper type) off a ceiling. Have just done the walls and very hard work. Someone has told me that you can buy a kind of scoring wheel in B&Q or Homebase that scores through the paint and paper so that water can soak in before starting to strip. Does anyone know what I should be looking/asking for? And any other tips gratefully received - my husband suggested a squeezy mop for wetting but thought maybe an ordinary sponge just as good?

Steamers are good.
I bought this Earlex Wallpaper Stripper from Argos.

I used it on my entire house to remove paper from every wall in the house and ceiling and some Artex to.
Its still hard work since you got to hold the steam plate on the ceiling and be careful not to get to close with the hot steam. It was far quicker to use one of these.0 -
Its a wallpaper perforator. Think they're about £6-7 , you could score the paper first using a utility knife, slice diaganally in both directions so you end up with diamond like shapes, just don't apply too much pressure. This will allow steam/water to penitrate underneath the paper making much easier work of stripping.
Most local ironmonger stores rent wallpaper steamers if you have one nearby. What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
thanks for info
We will get a perforator I think if I can get one in B&Q. We do have a wallpaper stripper but I do think the main problem is getting the steam to soak in under the paper. Mine is quite old, are the ones from hire shops more industrial in strength or is the main thing that you must pierce through the paper ?0 -
You should be able to get lining paper off, just with a brush and hot soapy water, do big crisscrosses with a knife, or scraper blade, then soak the ceiling.
Just a thought....., if the paint finish is silk, then you would be better off with a steamer, as silk is bu55er to get off. but if Mat, then soapy water, and a bit of elbow grease, you'll get it in no time.:D0
