The link you gave clearly states the 'The tax credit website will help you work out your entitlement but the BASIC features are listed below'.

Kazzajr was correct in their post as they stated the link I gave was not for tax credits.

It is NOT correct to state that all loans and grants do not count, as the ADG DOES.

Everyone who receives the ADG must declare it as income for tax credits - that could include a single parent if they have an adult at home who relies on their income - for whatever reason. It does not have to be a partner!

Please check out my link (to the actual tax credit website - the one your link points to for more detailed information!)

Also, mummytofour has been told the ADG counts.

It IS a student grant and it does count!

Your link is a general students link and mine is the actual tax credits information. It is often the case that sites give general information and then link to the more specific stuff.

Please anyone reading this, do not think you do not have to declare the ADG! You do.

Ring the helpline and get it from the 'horse's mouth' as my_two_cents is incorrect and following that advice could lead to a fraud investigation!

The normal loans and grants, including childcare and PLA do not count for tax credit purposes, BUT the ADG does!

No need to tear you hair out in trying to get the upper hand here ;) All I did was answered the OP's query, I never advocated for anyone not to call up to find out.

You quoted and linked an HMRC website for students in general.

I quoted and linked an HMRC website for students who are also parents, and whom the ADG is most likely to be applicable to. The OP is a student as well.

WHO IS RIGHT? WHO KNOWS, since we both gave links from the same website?

    Lawd a mercy !!! Phew
WHAT I SAID NEVER CHANGED ANYONE, WHAT THEY UNDERSTOOD DID:A
  • I worked on the Tax Credits helpline for 3 years until last week. (work for National Insurance now!)
student loans/bursaries etc will NOT be counted.
Why don't one of you ring the helpline and ask?? you'll get a straight answer about dependents grants. I'm pretty sure they are included but nothing else student wise
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j

The ADG is counted. It is a student grant!

I received it in 2005 (my first year) and I can assure you it has to be declared because it is for living costs.

It is not a case of getting the upper hand. I know it is correct!

Heck I'm confused. Could someone just clarify for me. Am I right in thinking ADG is the only thing you have to declare? What about bursaries? My partner and I both work. We receive Child Tax Credit but earn too much to receive Working Tax Credits. I've just started a course of ITT. I'm entitled to a student loan, a grant for fees, a maintanance grant and a bursary from the government as it's a teaching course. Do I not have to declare any of this?

No you don't. Or at least none of them count as income and I have never had to declare them.

Maybe it would be wise to give them a call just in case?
  • As Bestpud has said ADG is the only student grant for tax credits claims that you have to declare. Any other grant/loan does not have to be declared. You can not recieve both the childcare element of WTC and the childcare grant at the same time it is either one or the other. In otherwords if you do not claim ADG you do not have to declare anything, to back up what Bestpud has said.

    • student loans — do not deduct student loan repayments from
    your income
    • other student grants (except the Adult Dependant's Grant), such as those
to meet the cost of tuition fees, child care etc.
