Littlehampton to Stansted - Drive or Train?

Going to Stansted Airport next month and not sure if to drive or train/coach it. Route planner says about 2 1/2hrs driving, which is fine except the traffic on M25. No idea how long to allow?

We can go from Brighton to Victoria, then Victoria to Stansed on coach which would cost £12 for train (found a special offer - £3 pp each way) and then £12 each for the return coach. so £36 for the two of us. (lift to and from Brighton)

Quoted £17.80 for parking (3days) and petrol will prob be about £20.

Which would you opt for?

Leaving Saturday afternoon (19:00 flight) and returning after rush hour on Monday morning.

    Hi Sam!!!
Hmmm Im not sure which way I would go, I like the train lots and hate driving. I have been to stanstead a few times and its a lot more of a drive than you think. But then if you are taking Izzy I guess she would be strapped in her car seat which might be easier that a long train ride.

Make sure if you go by train that you check the train times as they often do rail way works at the weekends.

    I think I would drive.

When taking young children on a journey that involves 3 changes, carrying bags, plus waiting around in between-I think a car journey door to door is safer and easier personally. If going to the airport by train and bus you won't be able to stop off when you want or bring extra bits for the journey both ways. If your flight is at 7pm, you want to be at the airport by about 4.30pm (for car park transfers, airport checking in if doing, security queues, getting to the boarding gate). I also would allow extra time for travelling on the m25, than your orginally estimate, just in case traffic is bad it saves worrying. I would rather get there early and sit and relax-than start the holiday stressed.
