Every time I shut down my PC it says there are 7 or 8 windows updates to install.
When I try and install them while the PC running they always fail to install
Can anyone give advice on how to resolve this?
Thanks

Have a look at c:\windows\windowsupdate.log
This should give some indication about the installation failures.

I don't know if your using XP but the last lot of updates (9 of them) installed when the p.c. was shut down as has happened with some previous updates.
There is a message, as you quote, then another to not shut down the p.c. until all installation is finished and Windows will shut down on completion.
Or does the message appear then the p.c shuts down straight away without installing?0 -
Some updates require a RESTART not just a shut down and then turn on. You actually have to click RESTART instead of SHUTDOWN to get tehm to install0
