and i get no money back - is this right?!?
I took out a policy about 2 months ago for approx £1000, unfortunately made a claim recently for relatively minor damage to my car approx costs £700. I've since decided to sell the car, so phoned to cancel the polcy, and was told that i get no money back for cancelling, even though i have 10 months of cover left!!
Apparently the insurer has completed their obligation of the contract by paying out my claim, and so are entitle not to give me any money back
This seems outrageous to me... anyone know what my legal entitlement is?!?

There's nothing outrageous about it. By paying the claim, the insurers have fulfilled their part of the contract - your part was paying the premium.
Having said that, it's worth having another go. They might be willing to hold the unexpired part of the premium to credit against future cover or give you something back, although it wouldn't be pro-rata.0 -
If you are going to be driving again soon it would make more sense to keep the policy and switch it to a new car?0
