I Won I Won I Won

I've had afew small wins since i joined MSE :D but more than anything i'm enjoying comping here. Tell you the truth i've only entered comps in the past in my local area, like newspaper comps etc but now this is my local stop off shop for comps & info :)

Now i know die hard yippie-kay-yay compers do spend alot of time entering competitions on a daily basis but also share this info for other members on this site giving time and effort to help other people giving details & answers (ok its luck of the draw in a comp like everybody knows but you have to be in it to win it :) ).

I do find it frustrating in a way with people who have joined the site for various reasons and due to the success of the site they wouldn't be here!? but for that 2 seconds of thanks for people who post the competition and then somebody who supply's the answer i think it is a tad bit lazy!.........i've noticed that the thanks ratio for the post and then the answer to either confirm or submit for a defo answer is shocking!

This is not having ago at people but i think if we all have joined MSE to share information, enter competitions and share overjoyment in other people's winning's and fortunes or just to gain advice then i feel that for a small click of a button.........isn't it all worth it?

Sorry rant over :p

BTW in a positive comment i'd like to thank all members old & new for making this a great community to be apart of :)

If I'm reading your post correctly, then I totally agree - sometimes it's clear that posters have given up a lot of time to find or confirm answers but are lucky to receive a third of the thanks that the OP got. In some cases, those posters have actually done more work then the OP!

If I've completely misunderstood your post and this one makes no sense, then sorry *blushes* xxx

Please remember that the OP gets thanked so we know we've entered the comp! Most will thank for the answer too I've noticed.

If I understand correctly, people will thank the OP but not always the person who supplies the answer.

If so, I agree!! :D MSE is based on mutual sharing of information to benefit everyone, if it wasn't for all the people who post the comps & supply the answers there would be no competition site. So thanks to all. :D

  • Yep - I agree (but then being a fellow Yorkshire bird I would, wouldn't I?!!)

I have sometimes spent ages googling an answer to share so that other MSE'ers have the correct answer for a comp, but then find only a handful of people bother to press the thanks button.

Ok, said my bit - on a more positive note - thanks to all the comp posters & fab peeps who also go out of their way to post the answers.

  • Yes I totally agree with you I mean what i do normally is i check back to see how many people view (so to speak) especially the biggy comps, and see how many thanks are given, and in some theres not as much thanks given compared to the views.

Personally speaking though i think that some compers dont sign up with MSE and obviously if you dont log in you cant use the thank you button.

Maybe it should be in that, people HAVE to log in to use the comps board,

I dunno, but just a thought

Also I agree that the posters of the answers should get thanks as well. But most posters of the comps find the answers anway and if they dont, the poster of the comp always thanks the person with the answer (if you get me).

I have to agree as well.
I'm very new to posting and comping - this week in fact! BTU I always try and remember to say thanks. I couldn't believe when I first saw people even helping with the answers - it's great and huge thanks to everyone from a newbie :-)
    :jBack after a year off:j
:TThank-you to everyone who posts competitions and answers :T

I use the thanks to keep track of what I've done and to thank people for answers etc... This is the only forum I use that has a thanks button so it's quite a new feature to me but I like the idea.

I was talking to my bf about this kind of thing and he said that there is some stat somewhere that says that something like 1% of people who visit/use a forum (any forum - not just this one!) will actually participate in it (eg posting comments or competitions or messages in 'I Won' or whatever - probably even down to hitting a thank you button).

The internet is still a pretty new thing and everyone interacts with it in their own way. I totally understand the point the original poster is trying to make (after all, it's nice to see how many times you've been thanked!), but some people may feel quite intimidated by the whole thing and may prefer just to enter a few comps here and there and not really join in.

I am saying this because I am quite a shy person until I get warmed up and I went to a real life event on the weekend where a lot of people were really strident about people having to participate and it just made me not want to go back.

And I would really hate for people to feel like this about this forum, because everyone is really very friendly! :)
latest win: LOTR: Moria - thanks to catz
    - I'm moving to Australia in April - will the competitions be any good there?!:rotfl:
