Hi all
I am going to the US (Orlando) Saturday and would like to hire a car but have only just found out that I need a credit card - Is there any possibility that a company would organise an "over the counter" card? Is anyone aware of a company that will issue a card quickly?

Thanks

  • how about a prepaid card - only thing is you will need to put sufficient credit on there so they can pre-authorise

Nothing quite like prior planning !

No you can't get a credit card over the counter as credit checks need to be done.
However, not all car hire companies require a credit card. Some will accept a cash deposit as security though it's likely to be in the region of £500. What's the rental company ?
  • I dont care who the car rental company is. I've searched the web for companies in Orlando who are willing to take a cash deposit but had no luck except for links that lead to nowhere etc

Just been looking at the prepaid option but best I can find there is 6 working days

    I'll keep searching

You wont find anything i would say. Like what someone has said already, prior planning is the key
  • Are you going by yourself or with fanily and friends?

If so does anyone in your party have a credit card?
  • Thanks for all the helpful advice on prior planning, helps a lot.
Just family - out of ideas now but thanks anyway

Hi, try googling a few companies and read the conditions, this one i looked at says some will accept a cash deposit of a tank of fuel, no idea where the £500 pounds comes from? You always have to pay for the rental upfront anyway, do u have a visa debit you can pay with?

Just the fuel is that ! Not quite as those T&C's clearly show. No rental company is going to give anyone a car with a deposit based on the cost of a tank of fuel !

And no you don't always have to pay for the rental upfront, you get an option !
  • Thanks for that great link, Using that I got lots of info from them and a number for alamo in Sanford who told me its no problem as long as I have a debit card and can show return flight tickets.

Quick explanation regarding prior planning, I have never had and never will own a credit card and trusted the travel agents to send me all the info (what little there was) a bit earlier than a week before I leave! Only when i got this info did I see that a credit card was required, as it turns out the travel agents, who ironically deal with Alamo, dont know what they're talking about. Several phone calls to them to be told repeatedly I MUST have a CC when it turns out I do not.

    I wonder why

Case closed, off to see Mickey in my hired car. Phew

    Thanks again

    hi,

i have been to orlando three times whilst still bankrupt ( old rules was BR for three yrs so not had three hols in 1 yr!!lol) we had no credit card, they asked for it but i said i dont have one, i was asked for a 200 dollar deposit on all three occasions returned on return of the car. this was with both dollar rental and the other major one they use at travel agents just forgot the name. they will look at you like you just came from mars but just be firm and say i dont posess a credit card, we never had the need for one ever whilst there and didnt have a single problem.

hope that helps have a super holiday!!
