Isofix carseat fitted wrongly by Mothercare

Options
Hi all, hope you can give me some advice.

In January I went to Mothercare to get an Isofix carseat. I asked about the Chicco Key1 Isofix as it was reduced to £100 (down from £150) and asked staff to check the fit. They did and said it was fine for DH car (Xreg Picasso). Yeah I thought, what a bargain!:money:

Anyway I've now found that the top tether has been fixed to luggage hoops in the boot as we don't actually have an Isofix anchor in the boot. The staff seemed so confident and I didn't know what the hoops were for, I'm clueless when it comes to cars, and even though I read the instructions I didn't realise this was wrong until my SIL pointed it out!

Am angry as the seat obviously isn't as safe as it should be. Am going to contact the store tomorrow but since I've owned the seat for 7 months, do I have any rights to even complain, should I demand an appropriate seat replacement?

having been in a similar position recently, the first thing the store asked was if i had a receipt, and could i remember who fitted it, as without a receipt they couldnt do anything. Which leads me to think that if there is a receipt, they must be able to do something? Sorry, not much help really!!

We had an early Isofix car seat (1999) and I don't believe that there were the top tethers then. We never had any problems with our car seat and I would still feel confident using it today if I had a child of the appropriate age. Don't forget that by using the Isofix system, the car seat is actually attached to the chasis of the car.

    Thanks for replying so quickly!

Amazingly I do still have the receipt - normally I chuck them, but cannot remember who fitted it.

I've put the seatbelt on the seat as well as it does allow for normal fixing and I'm hoping that will do similar job to top tether.

I hate complaining, I'm not very good at it (hubby would probably disagree:D )

If you haven't got a top tether point in the car, it's because the car doesn't require it, best to check with a main dealer, or if they can't help, they should be able to point you towards head office who should have the correct information. Also check with the seat manufacturer - I know the Britax seats are not approved for every car that has ISOFIX points.
My daughter has a VW Polo and that has ISOFIX, but no top tether point. I'd certainly go back to the store that fitted it and complain, seems like they have not fittedit properly. In our local branch they keep a log of every seat sold, so they should have a record of it nnyway.
