Unknown DD payment - Homeowners...

Hi,

I received my Barclays current account statement today, and there's a DD payment which I've no idea about.

The payment, taken on 1st August, for £30 was in favour of "homeowners" with a long reference number.

Does anybody have any idea what this may be? Or who? I've tried googling it with no success.

I'm not a homeowner, and my other DD's all seem correct...My only thought is an Engage savings plan I setup a couple of months ago - but wouldn't that say Engage?

All idea's welcome. :)

Cheers,

Your bank can tell you more detail on who it is within seconds... best to give them a ring to be 100% sure.

If it is a mistake don't forget to demand your full and immediate refund as per the DD guarantee!

I'm going to go in to the branch tomorrow - never get very far with the foreign call centres, I just get infuriated.

    Cheers,

Homeowners (Friendly Society) is the old name for Engage Mutual - my direct debit for my contract is under the Homeowners name.

The reference number should tie in with your policy number.

fsa-logo.gifengage Mutual Assurance is a trading name of Homeowners Friendly Society Limited (“HFSL”) and its wholly owned subsidiary companies engage Mutual Funds Limited (“eMFL”), engage Mutual Services Limited (“eMSL”), engage Mutual Insurance Limited (“eMIL”) and engage Mutual Administration Limited (“eMAL”). HFSL and eMFL are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

An old Irish joke is that you have got the better of them by taking out a policy when you aren't a homeowner. :)
  • I just had an engage Mutual Assurance (homeowners friendly society) policy mature. I had been paying £25 a month for 10 years and received £2,456.02!!! A quick calculation works out that I paid in £3000. Very disappointed.
