Options
Hi all .Technophobe, first post, please don't be harsh:D .Over the weekend I dowloaded some Microsoft updates(mostly security related iirc).I now find that a)Google Earth shortcut has gone and b) my Yahoo mail inbox is empty:mad: .However,Windows mail still has all my mail.I don't know why I've got(or need) both:confused: .Tonight,I had new mail in Yahoo, but after I visited a site(coincidentally this one & returned to Yahoo home,my mail had disappeared.Any ideas anyone? Sorry if this is a stupid question.Apologies if this is a duplicate posting, but myfirst attempt just seems to have been absorbed by the ether.

Are you using Windows Mail to collect emails from your Yahoo account?

If so, it is probably deleting the emails off the Server at Yahoo after downloading them to Windows Mail. Therefore they do disappear.

You can prevent this by (in Windows Mail):

1/ Click the Tools Tab on the main toolbar.

2/ From the Drop Down menu, Click Accounts

3/ In the Accounts window, Click on the email account you require, i.e., Yahoo, and then press the Properties button

4/ In the Properties window, Click the Advanced Tab

5/ In the Advanced tab window look for the Delivery section near the bottom of the window

6/ In the Delivery section place a Check Mark in the box next to the 'Leave a copy of messages on server' option and then press the Apply button

7/ If you so wish you can also set the delivery option up to remove mail from the server after so many days or remove from the server when deleted from 'deleted items' by enabling the relevant option. Obviously you don't need to enable these options if you don't want to, but they are available if the need arises.

8/ Finally, Press the OK button to close the Account properties and then press close to close the Internet Accounts window.

This means that Windows Mail will download your emails but leave a copy intact at Yahoo. Obviously, you would then have to log into your Yahoo email account on the Web and manually delete them when you're finished with them so that your Inbox doesn't fill up.

    HTH.

Thank you for that detailed reply,Wombat.Sorry for not replying sooner-just finished work. Can't do the copy 7 paste bit yet so bear with me.Idon't know if Windows mail had any involvement with Yahoo-Ijust happened to go into it one dayjust for a look, and found 'duplicates of Yahoo mail on there.Isimply read and sent E mails from Yahoo homepage which suited me just fine-nice and easy(even for me) Is it likely thatone of the updates I installed was a bit 'buggy'? I'll try my best to find out exactly what they were.Meanwhile,I'll do exactly what you suggested. Thanks for taking the time.

Yeah, if you have duplicate emails in Windows Mail Inbox of emails that have been sent to your Yahoo account, then Windows Mail must be downloading your Yahoo emails.

Which means that Windows Mail could be deleting the emails off the Yahoo Server after downloading them, and that's why they disappear.

Try my advice above and see if they stay on the Yahoo Server.
