Mid Januaru. It will take about 3-5 working days for the transfer to take place, and I'm sure after Christmas the lenders will be throwing offers around left right and centre. You dont want to do it too early and lose out on free interest period0

Applying mid-January is cutting it far too fine in my opinion. Leaving it to then would leave your in serious risk of the card not coming through in time and you having to make interest payments on your existing cards. I generally apply about 6 weeks before an offer is due to end. Quite frequentlty, good 0% offers have a lot of applications and it can take 3 to 4 weeks before your application is processed and the account set up. Card issuers ask you to allow 7 to 10 days for a BT to be processed and for the money to be transferred to your original card.
6 weeks also means that you have a fighting chance of getting another application in if you get a rejection.
