Trojan in Samsung PC suite???

Options
Hi,

I've just done my daily run of AVG, and it came up with this:

Trojan Horse Generic11.KYC C:\program Files\Samsung\Samsung PC Studio3\SecTheme.cll

and again, but \Update\SecTheme.cll at the end.

AVG has put this in the virus vault, but now I can't use PC Suite

I've had PC Suite installed for a month or so and the run yesterday was clear, but today PC is really slow, few problems with internet loading too (only on my pc, other one is ok, but this may be unrelated!)

I've read this is a common problem where AVG finds a false Trojan??? But can anyone tell me how to correct it?

I need to use PC Suite and have an anti virus that works!

Thanks for any help!
:D

That certainly looks like a false positive on AVG's part.

Your best bet is probably to re-install PC Suite, and think about ditching AVG for Avast.

You could try making sure AVG is up-to-date with it's definitions file.

There were a lot of false positives when V8 was released, but major ones were sorted out quickly with subsequent updates.

  • I had a similar problem with Avast detecting a Trojan in a Samsung Windows XP skin customisation file on my X05 laptop but when I googled the file name it proved to be a false positive.
  • lol same old problems with avast and AVG. Do what I did- ditch anti-virus software.

Thanks for that - have uninstalled the messed up program and AVG, and am giving Avast a whirl - hopefully it will be ok. So far the hanging pages etc has stopped - so not sure if it is coincidence or was linked to something.

Yup - AVG8 was as updated as it could be - that was when the problem started! Just after the latest update I did.

Torres - what do you do for virus protection then?

  • I use online scanners. My computer isnt powerful enough to run anti-virus software without seriously reducing performance so I just use common sense to avoid viruses. They are VERY hard to catch these days
