We have flown with Emirates several times and joined their loyalty scheme. I'm sure it pays to take that bit extra care on what you wear. Instead of jeans, go for linen trousers, chinos etc. Polo shirts and a dressier top for ladies. Try and avoid wearing flip-flops. Flying from Mauritius to Dubai I asked at the Business Class desk if there was any possibility of an upgrade even though we were only on the basic level of Skywards. I was told there wasn't so I just smiled and thanked them and walked back to my husband. On checking in at Economy we took our boarding passes and I queried that the seat numbers were incorrect whereby the desk clerk kindly pointed out that we had been upgraded. Talk about being gob-smacked! Needless to say we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and sincerely hope this is not just a 'one-off'.

I have an email from BA Executive Club stating that all flights can be upgraded. I changed all my Tesco points to Avios and then discovered this to be totally untrue. I am now out of pocket by £140 worth of Tesco points!

Did you actually read the whole email?
  • I have been flying with mainly Uk Airlines for 45 years and my wife 35 years both on our own and with any of our 3 children. I joined Airmiles and Virgin ffc when it started. Until last year I paid for economy flights or used my various miles to get them. My wife and I flew to Chicago last Summer using our miles for Bus. Class and just paid the security and taxes part. Unbelievably, as we went thro the gate to board our plane at LHR we were given back our boarding pass and told we were both upgraded to First Class!
We have never worked out how we were picked for the upgrade but it was an enjoyable suprise.

This gem of an article has been rehashed again, and apparently Ryanair now offer a premium economy cabin!
