We actually complete next Wednesday and get the keys that day. You should get the keys on the day of completion as that's when you own the house? They told us it will probably take till about lunch time for our money to transfer through to the vendor and then they will call us and from that moment we are the owners and can pick the keys up from the estate agents. So not long to go at all!

Thats strange as they told us we had to wait a min of 5 days for the funds to clear the accounts and then that the MET would like two weeks from the clearance date to the date they give us the keys?

Have you exchanged contracts yet? We exchanged last week - ownhome requested that we had 10 days between exchange and completion to allow for the funds to clear. So we had to have that time gap but completion is when it's all done and it's ours.0

oh maybe thats where we are then.
We have signed our deeds etc but maybe our contracts get exchanged this week and then we have the 2 weeks to clear.

SJ I completely agree.
Whilst I appreciate the comments of others and take on board there views, it can be incredibly daunting when your doing something as huge as buying property to be told so strongly that you are making a big mistake
I agree with that statement entirely. I'm undecided on purchasing a new build flat myself at the moment and have looked down this forum a bit in the last few days. Mainly the advice is fantastic... without this forum I would have considered My Choice Homebuy as an option and that might have been a nightmare.
However there also seem to be a lot of 'experts' who are only to happy to put the boot in a bit and belittle anyone's cautious efforts.
All I would say is that it depends entirely on individual circumstances and if you feel its the right decision at the right time for you then go for it. Personally I've spent the last 5 years debating whether to buy a place and have decided if I don't do it now while the market is going down then I'll just keep stalling. Sometimes positivity can be the best course of action.0 -
Maseillo - thats a shame we both miss out on the extra money just by a few days!! Would have been very handy since i've just spent £400 on a sofa in the M&S sale today!! You're right Ownhome don't tell you about it - i came across a mention of it on a local government website for a london borough so called them and asked them about it, so it was only ever going to be a nice bonus if i was lucky enough to get it rather than relying on it so probably a good thing they don't advertise it to people!
Ah well, good luck with your move hope all goes smoothly. As nervous as i am about having taken the plunge in this financial climate to buy my first property i agree with you about situation - i can see why you are buying and i can't see any reason why there is a problem with that if you are planning to stay in the house for a while. Personally having bought a studio flat i'm hoping not to live there much more than 4 or 5 years (would be 35 by then!) but my aim now is to save save save and hopefully buy the 40% i don't own by the point i want to leave and then i'd be able to rent it out and always have it as my fall back place (having nearly got married and ended up moving back to my parents when we split up instead i decided I want to have a place of my own no matter what so that i have a back up if any future relationship i might have goes wrong - cynical maybe but moving back in with my parents again in another 10 years or something isn't really something i'd like to do!!) So the fact that Ownhome has enabled me to move back in on my own rather than living with my parents at 30 is only a good thing - i'll worry about the money side of things when i have to. Hoping i will just enjoy the first few years of having my own place - no matter how small it is!!0 -
Its finally over!!
We received the keys on Friday and are all moved it :j

Had a bonus bit of good news today - We've been in our house since the 1st December now and today we received a letter from Ownhome saying that they have been allocated more funds from the housing people (can't remember who) for grants and seen as we completed within the given timescale they are delighted to confirm that they will be sending us a cheque for £1500 soon!! WOOOHOOOO! I'm so happy - its so out of the blue - what a fantastic christmas pressie!! Has anyone else who completed lately had this?
