Delivery charge - petrol rate?

I'm offering to deliver a fairly large item to an address about 7 miles from where I live.
What would others charge for delivery expenses? I guess some would say it was a 14 mile round trip at x pence per mile. I asked a similar question 3 years ago and was advised about 20p per mile, but what with the price of petrol going up, I'm guessing that's a bit out of date now.
I was thinking probably a couple of quid (in total, not per mile!), does that seem reasonable? I can hopefully tie it in with another journey so I don't feel quite right charging for a round trip.

did you offer postage on the listing?0

Personally, I'd just work out the cost of the petrol, then round up.
My car does around 430 miles on £55 of fuel, so 13p per mile...x14 = £1.82...so 2 quid is what I'd use as the cost of fuel.
Depending on the cost of the item and effort in moving it, I might do it for a fiver...depends on how happy you are to get rid of the thing etc I guess and how good the price they paid in the first place was....0 -
if it was a sale on ebay, I'd do it FOC why not and make someone happy.0

I said in my listing it was no postage, only collection or by prior arrangement I may be able to deliver locally for the cost of my petrol... now just trying to work that out. I have no idea how many miles per gallon my car does
. But Idiophreak, it's probably similar to yours.
I may well do it FOC, not decided yet, but was just curious to see what others thought or did in the same situation really.
I desperately want rid as it's taking up space and they've paid a good price.0 -
My car is a lease car so it is simple to calculate (based on 10,000 miles per annaum).
For me it would cost about £3- £4 in petrol (for 14 miles return trip) plus the mileage rate @ 44p per mile plus 4.5p for tax (VED) plus 4p for insurance.
So the actual cost would be £7 - £8 and that does not include time. OK I have a big car but you get the gist of the actual cost.
If it was me and your car I would be looking for £5 - £10 depending on accomodating you want to be.0 -
Outside of ebay, I work for a vehicle asset management business, and when I was working in operations I would have a different vehicle home pretty much every night.
I've collected and delivered a few eBay sales in everything from a white van, a V12 S Class Merc, to a 17t Tipper with clamshell grab!! I was driving the latter when I picked up a laptop from a rather posh house in Altrincham. The shame...
As a round figure on the odd occasion when I have been asked if I could deliver, I'd just say 75p per mile for first 10 miles, and 25p per mile after that up to 30miles. Beyond that, it would take too much of my time to make it worthwhile.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

I'm guessing that's for the round trip?0
