Coop Bank Electron Cards

If you are offered a coop current account with electron card or cahminder electron account then only take if you do not use teephone or internet.
The Coop refuse to issue a 3 digit security code on the signiture strip making it of little use to people using telephone or internet. They said it was to prevent lower end customers using the card on the phone or internet.
So by this you can take it the Coop does not think Electon users deserve security like all other debit card users.

This card comes with 'basic bank accounts' that do not allow overdrafts. To provide the 3 digit code would 'guarantee' purchases, which otherwise might bounce if they took you overdrawn.
Given therefore that you can't go overdrawn with the cashminder account, there is no need for a 3 digit code.Ethical moneysaver0 -
It also applies to the coop current account if you get a Electron card.
The 3 digit code is no gaurantee scheme for an overdraft it is a security device all other basic accounts come with the security code.
The only thing the 3digit code does is confirms that the person trying to make the transaction is holding the card, it has nothing at al to do with allowing overdrafts.0 -
Apologies. :-XEthical moneysaver0

this is not very good and would expect more from the co-op bank - saying that they just turned me down for their smile current account. hmmmm! >:(#113 12K in 2020 Challenge #113 £17,103/£12,000 £150000

I have the Cashminder account with the Coop & it has the security code0 -
I understood it all debit cards (and credit cards (inc. the Electron debit card)) all have the security number on the signature strip (reverse of card).
The Cashminder account (basic bank account) does have a (chip 'n' pin) Visa Electron debit card and should have the security number on the signature strip.
If you don't have a debit card then all you have is a simple cashpoint card.
I would give customer services a call and query this as it doesn't sound quite right.
Hope this helpsProudly Banking & Saving With:

the new ones do. I opened my account in 2003 (cashminder) and the old card didn't then when it was renewed in 2005 it had the security number on the back.
They did tell me that they didnt do chip n pin but my card was stolen in December and a new one issued which has both the security code and chip.
only trouble is that still cant use them to buy train tickets.even though they can be used for underground tickets£61.20 x 20p today (start date 07/03)
