I think I'd assume it was fake.

If I liked it, I'd buy it!
  • This is a very difficult one. I have seen charity shops selling items for just about what they would cost in the shops and actually a couple of items I have seen that were more! I know this because I had bought the identical items and not on sale either! If I saw the bag I would buy it for myself or family and be happy to get a bargain (after all it could be a copy - who is to know). Would not buy it to sell on because I would feel badly, also you would need the original receipt to prove it was genuine.

I would recognise the name, once I'd picked it up to have a look inside. Of course I'd have no idea if it were a copy or not, & would assume that it was. If I liked it I'd buy it, if I didn't like it I's leave it there for someone else to 'bag'. :p
I don't bother with charity shops much nowadays as they're so expensive, as so many others have said. When I donate things I prefer to send things to a local jumble or rummage sale as I know the money goes directly into school funds, or the local hospice. I always tell them if something I've given is likely to make them a bit extra, but ultimately things are only worth what someone will pay for them. I did laugh a few weeks ago in Oxfam, they had some hideous, but expensive looking shoes for sale for £60, sitting on top of the box which clearly had them marked down to £45 from their original shop!

    sorry, post came out twice..
  • I'm not that fashion conscious, but to me a bargain isn't a bargain unless you really need it. If it was something I needed and they had under-priced it. I would buy it, otherwise I would tell them.

  • Sorry but I would buy it. They should know what they are selling.
  • Snap up the bargain and shout about it!

By buying the bag and raving to everyone where you bought it from you'd be giving all charity shops free advertising and might increase the number of people who visit them. I think a lot of people miss out on the joys of charity shop shopping, it's so much more fun than shopping in big chain stores where there are rarely such lovely surprises waiting to be found.
  • I'd buy it and sell it on ebay, but I'd be unlikely to find it & would assume it was a fake if I did. As I only buy handbags from Primark. Last one was about two years ago for £1.50. What is it with some women and handbags??
I have been lucky in the past such as a pair of jeans from a charity shop for £4. With £20 cash in the pocket! But when I went to pay for a set of 4 Wedgwood commemorative plates in another shop, for £2 the volunteer asked the manager if they had the boxes to pack them in. And she stopped her selling them to me, I was told they would be £10 each if I still wanted them! Needless to say I didn’t.
  • If bought in a charity shop I would persume it to be fake but if it turned out genuine I would sell it and donate some of the money to the charity stall based within the hospital that I work in.
I seldom give to charity shops after being told many years ago from a reputable souce that some charities ( I will not mention here) take 80p out of every pound for costs wages admin etc, thus leaving only 20p going to the needy which I know is better than nothing, however I know every penny raised within my hospital goes to various local charities so if I found it there I would tell them otherwise no.

  • If only!!!! I would snap it up very quickly
