How do I download free audio Books for my MP3?

Options
Can anyone help please? My OH is dyslexic and we are going on holiday in 2 weeks - I just bought him an MP player and wonder if I can download audio books onto it for him?

Many thanks

I'd love to know for myself !
What I usually do is hire an audio book from the library, copy the discs, convert them to mp3 format and them put them onto an MP3 CD (of course, at this stage you would move them to your MP3 player).
Of course, with my method, I delete the book as soon as I've listened to them.
Cost wise, my library charges me £1 for 3 weeks hire

Well you won't get them free, legally.

APART from as an introductory offer as part of a paid-for downloads service.

eMusic, for instance, will give you 25 songs, 2 audiobooks and £4 quidco for signing up, no obligation.

  • Just a thought, as you've only got two weeks - if he likes listening to non-fiction, there are many Podcasts available which you could download and transfer to the MP3 player. Have a look here for some ideas. Among others, I always make a point of listening each week to Dr Karl's Science Phone-in (Radio 5); Money Box (Radio 4); Digital Planet (World Service) and a couple of documentaries (also World Service).

It's relatively easy to download them; if you want to try it out and have problems, PM me.

There may be something of use in the above links.

I did use another site but the books were read by a computer voice.
No emotion or inflection at all.

That other site might have been: http://www.audiobooksforfree.com/home there are some pretty poor text to speach translations, but then there are some good ones too.

It could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.

Never new Dr Karl was on radio 5. Been listening to the podcast of his Australian one for years (Assuming it's the same Dr Karl!)
  • If he likes classics, there is loads of legal free stuff on libravox and very easy to drop it into iTunes

It is the same Dr Karl and he must have been doing the programme for some three or four years. You've probably never caught it as it goes out at 3.00am on Thursday mornings, when most normal people are asleep. (Not on this week due to Olympics). Definitely worth a listen.
