Student rent in Twickenham

Hi, i'm hoping someone can give me some advice? My son wants to apply to St Marys uni in Twickenham for 2009. The one thing that concerns me is whether the rent in his second year is going to be very high compared to other parts of the country. My eldest son is studying at Oxford Brookes & his rent is currently just under £300 pm in a shared house. Has anyone any experience they could share please? I'd be really grateful for any advice.
Thank you.

Twickenham rents are quite high as it's a nice area, but IIRC he will get the London rate of loan so that might be a help. I studied at Roehampton and had friends living in Richmond, Kingston, Twickenham etc, and on average I think they paid £75 to £100 a week in shared houses in that area. Obviously that generally won't include bills.

Don't forget that where rents are high, rates of pay for part time work are likely to be as well.

Very true, Kingston especially is good for p/t work, and I knew a few students who worked at Twickenham during events there. The agencies that recruit for that advertise heavily at the local unis.

I'm at Roehampton - I paid £368 a month (exc bills) for a double room in a shared 4 bed house. Guaranteed, very cheap but one of the worse areas in South London.

Twickenham is very expensive, I would definately encourage a flat share if your son can bare to live with other students (I hate it, so many of them are so filthy!). I have to say, I adore Twickenham though, beautiful area.
