House Alarm problems

Hello,

Hope someone can help.
A few hours ago the electric went off and as a result the house alarm went off. (Had house alarm 8 years)
I turned electric back on and reset the house alarm to turn sound off. Meanwhile the alarm box inside the house (where the backup battery is) was making a loud bleeping noise for about 30 minutes. A neighbour said I probably need a new battery and that the loud bleeping was the battery being charged up.
Anyway my problem now is that the outside box blue light is still flashing (no alarm sound thankfully) and my alarm keypad is not responding to try and reset.
Any advice would be gratfully received. I don't really want to call an electrican due to high potential cost.
Thanks,
Debbie

You definitely need a new battery in the control panel.

It sounds to me like all you've done so far is to "acknowledge" or "accept" the alarm - hence the strobe is still flashing.

You now need to reset the system. On my alarm panel this is done by pressing the # symbol after keying in your code & sometimes you have to do it twice, eg 1234# 1234# (substitute your code for 1234).

If this doesn't work do you have a manual?

You really need to supply more details on the alarm but from the sound of it , its likely that the back up battery is duff. Some panels give a warning when batteries require changing, hence the loud beeps.

Batteries need to be changed on average every 3 years,
when did you last change it ?

If its duff and a wireless alarm this could also explain why
the keypad isnt working.....assuming its sending or rather trying to send a remote signal to the main box.

If you leave the main power connected, you may be lucky and it may charge the battery enough to connect to the main panel and shut it down.

I would replace the main backup battery asap.

Other than that its a ladder and service engineer job
    :(
  • Hello,

Thanks to advise from Yorkshireboy and alanobrien. I had tried resetting it but no luck. Found manual about an hour ago and my stepfather just been around has now reset it factory setting. Flashing light out now thankfully.
Looks like I will have to buy a new battery for it in the near future.

    Thanks again guys.

    Debbie
