if both Pc's have ehternet connectors then you just need a crossover CAT5 network cable, Xp will detect the Network and start the wizard to set it up :)

or you could plug the laptop straight into the netgear router/modem with the supplied cable (or a longer one)
  • Remember to look at the help to set up Internet connection sharing

  • How is the main PC currently hooked up to the web, if at all?

If you already have a router of some sort, then you should be able to plug in the laptop to the router using a regular ethernet cable (just like drahcir said).

If you are to use a USB modem or regular 56K modem, you will likely have to download some proxy software (there should be some freeware stuff about) to run on the main PC. You can then hookup the laptop to the main PC via a crossover cable (as per Browntoa). I have successfully done this before, but it did take a little playing around. If this is how you intend to do it, let me know and I'll have a hunt for the name of the software that I used.

It has to be said, the the Netgear wireless route is by far the easiest that I have tried!

    Hope this helps,

  • OK, the option then is an ethernet cable between pc and laptop. Use Interet connection sharing - search for it in help.
