Leaving FirstDirect for £100

Just say "In all your years of banking, they are the worst bank you've ever had the pleasure of dealing with". That is what I said when I left them. Granted, I didn't leave for the £100 bonus (they weren't doing it), I actually left as they are the worst bank I've ever dealt with.
Thankfully, my switch to another bank has been smooth and fine and everything is good, yet FD are just terrible.
The only good thing I told them was that I could call up and not press buttons. Sometimes you have to wait a few mins (depending on times of day), but I said bar that they were terrible.0 -
Right, if you've gone to the trouble of paying in £1500 over the last six months, whatever you do - Don't say the service is second to none when you leave them!!
All the paperwork says they will give you £100 when you close your account "as long as a salary or income of £1500 or more has been paid in for the last six mothts, and you haven't previously banked with FD". ... apparently this isn't enough though ...you also have to say you're not happy with their service (can i find this defined anywhere in writing...???).
I can't say what WILL get your money, but i know that simply saying you want to close your account WON'T get you it!!
I would be interested to hear what people think of the definition 'salary or income'. I have paid in £1500 per month, though not direct from my employer. Despite someone earlier telling me this would meet the criteria, I've now been told it doesn't. So even if i'd said the right thing when i closed my account i probably wouldn't have got the £100.

First Direct might have someone at the end of a phone ready to help, but they are pretty quick to hinder too. Their much publicised fee free overdraft of £500 has just become a £250 overdraft after they sent customers a message, quietly pointing out that over £250 you will now be charged interest.
So, I'm off -- to Alliance and Leicester which has the best current account deal on - fee free for real and £100 to join!0 -
I received my joining incentive in 14 days after 3rd salary deposit. So, no complaints here.
I agree internet banking is troublesome, esp:
1) Cannot delete payees
2) "Request cannot be processed" message appear quite often while transferring money between accounts
None of the above is true, im guessing you have not been with them long :rolleyes:0 -

I always love very untrue posts, so how long have you been with them? :rolleyes:0 -
I have been with First Direct since 2003, I have always had an overdraft of £500, it was only last week that I dropped below the overdraft limit so I rang them at the bank, yes they have charged me £25 but they have temporarily increased my overdraft to £600 - the account has been bought back up now. I cannot fault them at all, they are always polite and pleasant to talk to. We even discussed how people join for £100 and then leave just to get another £100 - we concluded that these people are desperate and would do anything for £100 even to standing on a street corner in a short skirt and no knickers:rotfl:
I have never had a problem with their internet banking - it is the easiest to use.
If you want to leave then so be it but please don't moan about their service because it is faultless.
I have never paid in £1500 a month either - currently I only pay in £614 and have never had a problem with them.0 -

The 'high-class' tarts will be earning a little more than £100...
£75 for opening the account via cashbackkings
£100 for switching your salary
£150 in referral incentives for introducing your friends (3 x vouchers sent)
£100 for leaving
That's a total of (up to) £425 for effectively redirecting your salary for 6-7 months.0
