Mr P (and his parents and his best friend - the best man) all stayed at the home of the parents of my 2 best friends (a pair of sisters and 2 of my 6 bridesmaids). Similarly, 2 years previously, my best friend's (i.e. the elder of these 2 sisters) OH, brother (best man) and parents had stayed at my Mum and Dad's house the night before their wedding. :D

I think its traditional that you don't see each other before the ceremony on the actual morning. We kept to that tradition - although bearing in mind that we were all so close (and Mr P had slept in the same house as 2 of my bridemaids the night before!) I was fully aware that "everything was OK..."!

I would say "do whatever you feel most comfortable with" - we ended up having a party at my parents house the night before the wedding (what started out as a small supper party for bridesmaids/ushers/wedding party, quickly grew as my parents discovered that various friends - who were all still either students - we married young! - or close to being students, had arrived in town to stay in B&Bs/a travelodge) and were having difficulty in finding dinner (we lived in a very small town with few restaurant facilities!). We ended up with about 60 "young people" at my parents house!!! My mother did try and keep some sense of "normality", rang a bell and called last orders at 11pm (we are talking back in 1996!) and cleared the house of "males" :rotfl: by midnight. I finally got to bed at 2am - its a wonder (and a real tribute to the lady who did my make up!) that I didn't have huge bags under my eyes in my official photos!! :p

Do what you want to - its your special day!!

P.S. Gluttons for punishment, my parents then hosted a full cooked breakfast for anybody who wanted it on the Sunday morning after our wedding!! (Ahhh...they love a good party, my parents...!!!!).

MsChazzer - if things are political in your family - walk up the aisle on your own.

    Hope everyone has fabulous days.

This may sound odd but I kind of want someone to hang onto as I know I'll probably be blubbing. I can also walk up with my mum. I read recently of a wedding where the groom came to meet the bride and walked her up, which I think sounds lovely.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

OH is staying at our place, but i'm moving out to the b&b where we're stopping the night of the wedding, i can't stay at my parents even though i'm setting off from their house.
  • OH and his BM will be staying at our house and I will be at my parents with my sister, and best friend. My Dad will prob spend the night before at the pub with my OH (we live in the same town as my parents so distance isn't a prob) while I have a girly night in with my mum, sis and best friend. My mum's house is much bigger than mine so I'll have mouch more room to get ready in the morning there!! :)
